What is telehealth?

Telehealth provides an opportunity for you to meet with your therapist through an audio and video meeting. Telehealth can be great for reducing barriers such as time and transportation, or it could simply be a preference to engage in therapy in a space that feels safe and secure for you.

What do I need to access telehealth sessions?

Telehealth sessions can be done on a computer, laptop, tablet, or smart phone. The device must have access to camera and audio. For optimal results, a reliable, high-speed internet connection with a bandwidth of at least 10 mbps will minimize connection issues and provide the best quality.

Do I need to download or install anything?

You will be able to easily join your appointment by clicking on a unique link that is provided to you prior to your scheduled session. You do not need to download or install any software; the link will launch your session on your default web browser. If you prefer to join on a tablet or phone, you can download the app by searching "Telehealth for SimplePractice".

How can I prepare for my telehealth session?

Similar to in-person therapy sessions, having a private space free of distractions is ideal. To minimize distractions or interruptions, I recommended having a room where you can close doors and windows, and to hang a "do not disturb" sign to help ensure you can stay fully engaged and present.

Troubleshooting

Connectivity issues can range from a variety of factors including low internet speed, older devices, or an overloaded computer or device (too many tabs open). It may be helpful to close all apps and browser tabs to enhance connectivity. If the connection quality is poor, you can open Google and search: internet speed test. Click the blue button that says Run Speed Test. If it is under 10mbps and you’re using wifi, try using a wired internet connection or restarting your router. If you can connect to internet, I recommended using the Pre-call tool when you launch your meeting.
